Künker sale 406, lot 3867

This specimen was lot 3867 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €1,000 (about US$1,312 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Josef II. 1765-1790. Dukat 1783, G, Nagybánya. GOLD. R Min. Randfehler, vorzüglich +. (Holy Roman Empire, Joseph II, 1765-90, ducat of 1783, Nagybánya mint. Rare, minor edge flaws, choice extremely fine.)"

Altho this ducat was made in Transylvania, it is filed under Austria as it used a standard design common to Vienna (mintmark "A"), Kremnitz (mintmark "B"), Karlsburg (mintmark "E") and Hall (mintmark "F"). It was struck 1780-90 and is the most common ducat of Joseph II. The first years (Fr-203) used an armored bust of the emperor.
