This specimen was lot 72345 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "FINLAND. Penni, 1869. Helsinki Mint. Alexander II of RUSSIA. PCGS MS-63 Brown. Still offering a good deal of red mixed with the brown, this lustrous, vibrant specimen features a solid strike and great eye appeal." This type is listed for 1864-71 and was struck for Finland by the czarist administration. It is priced substantially higher than the later type (KM 1.2, with dentilated border) of 1872-76. Russian defeats in World War One enabled the Finns, who had long chafed under Russian rule, to declare independence.

Recorded mintage: 1,575,000.

Specification: 1.28 g, copper, 15 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 1.1; Bit-668.
