Denmark 1609 4 skilling

from the Stack's Bowers February 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 10095

This specimen was lot 10095 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,251). The catalog description^[1] noted, "DENMARK. 4 Skilling, 1609. Copenhagen Mint. Christian IV. NGC AU-55. Rare date with nice toning. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." This type was struck at Copenhagen 1602, 1604 and 1609 and was worth 1/24 speciedaler. Another four skilling of 1609 (KM 41) featured the king's bust on the obverse. Christian IV (r. 1588-1648) had a long but only moderately successful reign. His war with Sweden and his intervention in the Thirty Years War were costly and brought little gain.
