This specimen was lot 41856 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 25 Pence, 1977. Llantrisant Mint. Elizabeth II. NGC PROOF-70 Ultra Cameo." This crown honored the silver jubilee of queen Elizabeth's reign. This example realized eighteen times the catalog value in proof. Soon after this issue, these large NCLT's were raised from 25 new pence (the value of the old crown) to five pounds.
Recorded mintage: 37,061,000 for circulation plus 194,000 copper-nickel proofs plus 377,000 silver proofs.
Specification: 28.28 g, copper-nickel, 38.6 mm diameter, or 28.28 g, 0.925 fine silver.
