Iran AH 1293 toman

Sincona sale 85, lot 1018

This specimen was lot 1018 in Sincona sale 85 (Zurich, October 2023), where it sold for 10,600 CHF (about US$14,274 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"IRAN, Nasir al-Din Shah, 1264-1313 AH (1848-1896). 1 Toman 1293 AH (1876 AD), Tehran Mint. Lion & Sun type. Ghazi. Very rare, especially in this condition. NGC MS62+. From the Kian collection, auction SINCONA 49, October 2018, lot 21. Bought from Dr. A. Shams-Aram, London, 1983. Finest certified by NGC. In 1293 AH, the first milled coins of Nasir al-Din Shah were issued."

With the coming of the milled coinage, all of the branch mints were closed and all production was completed in Tehran. One thousand dinars made a kran and ten kran made a toman. This type is listed for AH 1293 only.
