This type was struck 1751-60 for king Ferdinand VI. There are two reported varieties for the year, the one shown appears to be 1760/50 overdate, but is technically unreported because the mintmark has a combined M and A. Gilboy^[1] considers all varieties to be rare. As a class, pillar coinage of Peru is much less plentiful than that of Mexico, though it is more available than the remaining mints.

Mexican numismatists hotly debate which side of the coin constitutes the obverse. Gilboy^[1] depicts the shield side as the obverse as that side bears the king's name. However, auction catalogs and dealer listings more frequently use the pillars and globes side as the obverse, as that side bears the date.
