Cob 4 Reales, 1712-Mo J. Mexico City Mint, Assayer Jose E. de Leon (J). Philip V. PCGS Genuine--Environmental Damage, VF Details. The only certified example of the date on either the NGC or PCGS census. This charming lozenge-shaped minor exhibits a bold full four-digit date and mint mark with a partial Assayer's letter, shield, cross and castles and lions. Close inspection reveals slight surface porosity from prolonged saltwater exposure, now toned a pleasing dove gray with areas of richer coloration. Despite its shortcomings this presentable example is handsome and pleasing to the eye. From the Pat Johnson Collection. This specimen was lot 34140 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted,
