Stack's Bowers 2024 NYINC sale, lot 54134

This specimen was lot 54134 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Rupee, 1915-(C). Calcutta Mint. George V. NGC MS-65. One of the finer examples of this SCARCER date that one will encounter, the present Gem offers an enticing burnished hue to the toning upon each side." The rupees of George V were struck 1912-22 and 1935-36 and most dates are common. Proofs are rare. The Bombay mint contributed another 5,372,000 in 1915.

Recorded mintage: 9,900,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 11.66 g, 0.917 fine silver.
