This specimen was part of lot 33136 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), which sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "Four-Piece Certified Edward VII Maundy Set 1908, all graded MS67 NGC, KM 795, -796, -797.2, and -798. A splendid collection of Maundy issues, many of which display hints greenish-blue, magenta, and golden color." The Maundy sets, originally a set of silver one, two, three and fourpence given to the poor, were a fusty tradition by the reign of Edward VII. Only the threepence still matched a coin used in circulation. The sets swiftly passed into the hands of collectors and saved, making them common today.
Recorded mintage: 9,929, all for sets.
Specification: 1.89 g, 0.925 fine silver.
Catalog reference: S-3986; KM 798.
