Sincona sale 85, lot 1233

This specimen was lot 1233 in Sincona sale 85 (Zurich, October 2023), where it sold for 450 CHF (about US$606 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Sultan Ahmad Shah, 1327-1344 AH (1909-1925). 2000 Dinars 1344 AH (1925/1926 AD), Tehran Mint. NGC MS63. Magnificent condition. From the Kian collection, auction SINCONA 49, October 2018, lot 266. Tied with one other for finest certified by NGC."

This type was struck AH 1331-1344 during the reign of Ahmad Shah (r. 1909-25). A 1344/34 overdate is reported. Ahmad Shah left for Europe in 1923 and was absent during the coup of 1925 which ousted him.

Recorded mintage: 12,354, which seems incorrect, as this is not a rare date.

Specification: 9.21 g, 0.900 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 1057.
