Cambodia, formerly part of French Indochina, was granted full independence in 1954 as a constitutional monarchy. Since then it went full circle, becoming increasingly Marxist until the genocide perpetrated by the Khmer Rouge prompted invasion by Vietnam in 1979, and since 1993 becoming a kingdom again.
