Cambodia 1959 20 sen rev DSLR.jpg

Cambodia came under a French protectorate in the 1860's but French control was fatally disrupted by Japanese occupation during World War Two. The Cambodians tried to stay neutral during the ensuing Vietnamese conflict but was inexorably sucked in. In 1975, after the communists emerged triumphant, the monarchy collapsed and the communists have ruled Laos since. It is estimated that Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge regime was responsible for the deaths of two million people. This twenty sen was struck in Paris in 1959, while Cambodia was still a monarchy.
