This specimen was lot 31917 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted, "Liechtenstein. Franz Joseph I 1/2 Taler 1778 MS63 NGC. A one-year type with gunmetal gray hues and underlying luster, all highlighting a handsome bust of Franz Joseph I." Half thalers were also minted in 1728-29 and 1758, in conjunction with thalers. This one is the most available. The princes of Liechtenstein are not recorded as having visited their realm until after World War One.
