Sincona sale 4, lot 5639

This specimen was lot 5639 in Sincona sale 4 (Zurich, October 2011), where it sold for 2,300 CHF (about US$3,060 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Uri Dukat 1720. Urnerwappen auf verzierter Kartusche. Rv. Der hl. Martin nach links reitend, teilt seinen Mantel mit dem Bettler. Gutes vorzüglich. (Switzerland, canton of Uri, ducat of 1720. Obverse: cow's head on cartouche; reverse: St. Martin divides his cloak with a beggar. Good extremely fine.)"

Unlike the extensive coinage of Basel, Bern or Zurich, the forest canton of Uri issued only a few, rare ducats such as this one with a cow's head.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW; this specimen is 3,43 g.
