Sincona sale 6, lot 1990

This specimen was lot 1990 in Sincona sale 6 (Zurich, May 2012), where it sold for 270 CHF (about US$332 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR/ÖSTERREICH Ferdinand III. 1637-1657. Taler 1650, Wien. Geharnischtes, belorbeertes Brustbild mit langen Haaren nach rechts, darunter die Jahreszahl. Rv. Gekröntes, von der Vliesordenskette umgebenes Wappen. Rd. lt. bearb. Sehr schön-gutes sehr schön. (Austria, Ferdinand III, 1637-57, thaler of 1650, Vienna mint. Obverse: laureate, armored bust with long hair, facing right, date below; reverse: crowned arms with Order of the Golden Fleece around. Perhaps clipped, very fine.)"

This type was struck 1650 only but is only somewhat scarce. Other thalers for 1650 include Dav-3189, Dav-3194 and Dav-3190.
