Stack's Bowers November 2022 Collectors Choice sale, lot 74610
SB1122-74610r.jpg

This specimen was lot 74610 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 1/4 Taler, 1624-HS. Zellerfeld or Goslar Mint. Friedrich Ulrich. PCGS EF-45. Presenting great detail remaining on the coin's main motif, the wildman, this elegant example sports some deep gray color with some lighter hues of cobalt and olive accentuating the devices. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This quarter thaler was struck 1614-29 and despite the many years of production, is rather scarce. A one-eighth thaler (KM 167) and half thaler (KM 51) also exist.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM-50; Welter-1068.
