This specimen was lot 54220 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $1,260. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Kampen. Ducat, 1603. Kampen Mint. Rudolph II. PCGS AU-53. A SCARCE Dutch issue, this pleasing Ducat is nicely struck, with only limited signs of handling and sharp glittery brilliance retained. A more difficult to locate type, and one that we expect much demand for." A number of towns issued coins in the Netherlands besides the provinces and the Generality consistently found them below standard as to weight and purity. Decades of complaints finally resulted in the closure of all the municipal mints by the end of the seventeenth century. This type was struck 1586-1603 and 1646-60 and is fairly scarce.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3.48 g.
