Jean Elsen sale 123, lot 1336
Zwolle JE 123-1336r.jpg
Zwolle in 1648

This specimen was lot 1336 in Jean Elsen sale 123 (Brussels, December 2014), where it sold for €240 (about US$349 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NEDERLAND, ZWOLLE, Stad, AR zilveren dukaat, 1664, Mmt. bloem. Droit: Staande ridder naar radié met zwaard en provinciewapen. Revers: Gekroond Generaliteitswapen. Zeldzaam. Einde muntplaat. bijna Zeer Fraai. (Netherlands, city of Zwolle, silver ducat of 1664, mintmark flower. Obverse: standing knight with sword supports the provincial arms; reverse: crowned arms of the Generality. Scarce, mint clip, about very fine.)"

This type, listed for 1659-69, is not listed as expensive but usually comes in poor condition as most were badly struck. Zwolle is a town in the province of Overijssel.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a scarce date.

Specification: 28.25 g, .873 fine silver, this specimen 28,22 g.
