This specimen was lot 30587 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $1,997.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Newfoundland. George V 50 Cents 1918-C MS65+ PCGS, Ottawa mint. A short-lived series and scarce as such, this present offering features heavy mottling that covers both sides. The surfaces retain much of their argent tone within the centers and are striated by shades of lavender, champagne, and graphite color. As such, PCGS has awarded this selection with the sought-after plus designation, and at present time, this coin is bested by only one other certified example." This type was struck in Ottawa for Newfoundland in limited numbers 1911 and 1917-19 and is fairly available in grades up to extremely fine. This date is common.
Recorded mintage: 294,824.
Specification: 11.78 g, 0.925 fine silver, .350 troy oz ASW, 30 mm diameter.
