This specimen was lot 20002 in Heritage sale 3008 (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $17,250. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Canada. Victoria Cent 1887, MS66 Red PCGS. Out of 1.5 million pieces struck, this is the sole highest-graded example certified by PCGS (7/09); not only is it the lone survivor awarded the MS66 designation by that service, but it retains fully Red surfaces, actually rich copper-gold and orange with peach overtones. Victoria's hair is finely wrought. Scattered small marks and tiny isolated areas of deeper color are visible on either side. A leading Canadian dealer had this to say about this piece, 'It is the finest Victoria Cent, of any date, that I have ever seen.' In sum, a rare opportunity to obtain a fantastic representative--the finest the issue has to offer." This type was struck 1870-1901 in large quantities and is readily available in grades up to brown Uncirculated. This date is priced about 80% higher than the commonest date (1900-H) but is otherwise unmemorable.
