This specimen was lot 51213 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 1/4 Real, 1805-L. Lima Mint. Charles IV. NGC Unc Details--Obverse Spot Removed. A sharp example with even golden-toned surfaces. Evidence of the spot removal, while faint, can be observed within the castle's arch. From the EMO Collection. Privately purchased from Freeman Craig." Two types of cuartillas were struck at the beginning of the series: KM 99 (portrait type) struck 1792-96 and KM 102.1 (lions/castles without value) struck 1794-96. Both are scarce compared to the regular lions and castles type struck 1796-1821, of which an example is shown here.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 0.84 g, 0.896 fine silver.
