This specimen is one of a type struck at Popayán 1808-19. The legend states "FERDND VII" altho the bust is of Charles IV. The Colombian mints (Popayán and Nuevo Reino) concentrated on minting gold, to the near exclusion of silver which predominated at the other colonial mints. While this makes Colombian colonial silver coins expensive, Colombian colonial gold is (comparatively) reasonable and this type is common. The catalog values the NR product higher than the Popayán product tho there doesn't seem to be justification for this.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.38 g, 0.875 fine gold, .095 troy oz AGW.
