The specimen shown was lot 141 in Aureo y Calico sale 242 (Barcelona, March 2012), where it sold for 3,400 € (about US$5,162 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Carlos II (1665-1700). 1699. Carlos II. Lima. R. 8 escudos. Anv.: (...)HISPANIARVM. Rev.: L- 8 -R / P -V -A / 6-9-9. Sirvió como joya. Muy rara. MBC. (Charles II (1665-1700), eight escudos of 1699, Lima mint with "HISPANIARVM" on obverse. Reverse: L-8-R/P-V-A/6-9-9. Removed from jewelry, very rare, very fine.)"
This eight escudos was struck 1696-1701 in very limited numbers.
Reported Mintage: unknown.
