This specimen was lot 29488 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $2,232.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel. Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand gold 10 Taler 1801-MC AU55 NGC. Attractive, with lightly toned, golden surfaces that display highly appealing design elements. Slightly porous from being underwater, but still pleasing nonetheless. A nice piece with an interesting historical background, recovered from the S. S. New York." This type was issued in small quantities 1794-1806 along with a gold 2½ (KM 1032) and five thaler (KM 1025). The last ten thaler was struck in 1857.
