This specimen was lot 1152 in Stephen Album sale 32 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRUNSWICK-LÜNEBURG-CALENBERG-HANOVER: Georg II, 1727-1760, AR thaler, Zellerfeld mint, 1756, mintmaster IBH, George II as King of Great Britain, GEORG II D G M BRIT FR & H REX F D BR & L DVX S R I A TH & EL, crowned quartered arms in ornate frame // CANDIDVS HAEC PROFERT MONTANVS PRAEMIA CYGNVS, white swan on lake amid hills, clouds above, below in 5 lines: DIE GRVBE / WEISSER SCHWAN / KAM IN AVSBEVT / IM Q: LVCIAE 1732 / I.B.H., dually dated Luciae (Autumn) 1732 and 1756, NGC graded AU58." The Duchy of Brunswick was divided and subdivided in the seventeenth century but was eventually reassembled as the Kingdom of Hannover before being absorbed into Prussia in 1866. This mining thaler was also issued 1750 and 1752; a similar thaler honoring the same mine is known from Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel (Dav-2157).
Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.
