In 1954, the Lima mint interrupted its sequence of liberty head five centavos to issue this type commemorating Marshal Castilla, hero of the war of independence and one of Peru's early presidents. The regular issue resumed and continued until 1965. A similar ten and twenty centavos (KM 233 and KM 234) were also minted.
Recorded mintage: 2,080,000 plus 6,244,000 of the regular type.
Specification: 1.85 g, brass, 17 mm diameter, designed by Rayond Testu.
