The type was struck in Lima 1950-70 in limited numbers as a bullion coin. This date is not common; some dates are rare (<200 pieces). Gold five, ten, twenty and fifty soles were struck during the same period. This specimen was lot 24629 and sold on Apr 16, 2011 for $2760 at the 2011 April Rosemont Signature World & Ancient Coins CICF Auction #3014 by Heritage Auctions. The catalog description noted: "Republic gold 100 Soles 1954, MS62 NGC, satiny luster, usual bold strike. In this year, only 1,808 were minted of this gigantic gold coin."
