In 1954, the Lima mint interrupted its sequence of liberty head ten centavos to issue this type commemorating Marshal Castilla, hero of the war of independence and one of Peru's early presidents. The regular issue resumed and continued until 1965. A similar five and twenty centavos (KM 232 and KM 234) were also minted.
Recorded mintage: 1,818,000 plus 7,786,000 of the regular type.
Specification: 2.7 g, brass, 20 mm diameter, designed by Raymond Testu.
