Sincona sale 4, lot 4850

This specimen was lot 4850 in Sincona sale 4 (Zurich, October 2011), where it sold for 12,000 CHF (about US$15,963 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"GROSSBRITANNIEN William III. 1694-1702 5 Guineas 1701. Belorbeertes Brustbild nach rechts. Rv. Vier gekrönte Wappen ins Kreuz gestellt, in den Winkeln Zepter. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Great Britain, William III, 1694-1702, five guineas of 1701. Obverse: laureate bust to right; reverse: four shields in the form of a cross with scepters between. Very fine to extremely fine.)"

The five guineas was the largest gold coin issued for circulation in Great Britain; all are scarce to rare.
