This specimen was lot 34975 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $382. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Milan. Scudo (6 Lire), 1780. NGC EF-40." This type was struck 1778-80 at the end of the reign of the redoubtable Maria Theresia. Similar scudi were struck for Joseph II 1781-86 (Dav-1387), after which the crocione was introduced. Austria lost Milan to the French in 1797.
