photo courtesy Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

This specimen was lot 2192 in Goldberg sale 91 (Los Angeles, June 2016), where it sold for $493.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Chile. Peso, 1860-So NGC MS64. Standing liberty. Reverse: Value in wreath. Attractive original brilliant mint luster. NGC graded MS-64." This type was struck 1860-64 and, like the silver peso of 1853-62, is much scarcer than the SCWC values indicate. A modified design (KM 140) was issued 1867 and 1873.

Recorded mintage: 156,000.

Catalog reference: Fr-48; KM-133.

Specification: 1.52 g, .900 fine gold, .044 troy oz AGW, 14 mm diameter.
