This specimen was lot 72296 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $1,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. Escudo, 1805-PTS PJ. Potosi Mint. Charles IV. NGC MS-63. This is a truly RARE Spanish Colonial Gold type. Mintage of 613 pieces, and only two have graded MS 63 or higher. A few obverse toning lines are noted. Clearly a high end Mint State coin with sparkling golden luster and a powerful portrait of the Spanish king." This type is very scarce as is most colonial gold from Bolivia. Assayer PJ is recorded for 1803-25.

Recorded mintage: 613.

Specification: 3.38 g, .875 fine gold, .095 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Cayón-14121, Fr-17; KM-78.
