Sincona sale 80, lot 5336

This specimen was lot 5336 in Sincona sale 80 (Zurich, October 2022), where it sold for 5,500 CHF (about US$ including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND | Zurich | Stadt und Kanton, Doppeldukat 1767, Zürich. Stempel in der Jahreszahl aus 1761 geändert. Very rare. Good extremely fine." This scarce type was struck 1718-67 along with quarter (Fr-488a), half (Fr-487a) and single ducats (Fr-486a). In 1798, the canton of Zurich was forcibly incorporated into the Helvetic Republic.
