The specimen shown is an example of a type struck in Austria, 1959-2001. Austria began minting euros in 2002, rendering this coin obsolete. The obverse features the edelweiss, the flower made famous by The Sound of Music. In 1982, US$1 = 16.7 schilling.

Recorded mintage: 29,950,000 + 50,000 proofs.

Specification: 4.2 g, aluminum bronze, 22.5 mm diameter.
