SB121-24346r.jpg

This specimen was lot 24346 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $95. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. 1/2 Cent, 1873. Utrecht Mint; privy mark: sword. William III. PCGS MS-64 Brown Gold Shield. Taking on a bit of a cobalt nature, this dark brown near-Gem possesses a great deal of shimmering luster and vibrancy." Altho the SCWC divides Dutch half cents into three types (KM 51 for 1818-37, KM 68 for 1841-47, KM 90 for 1850-77), they are, in fact, indistinguishable except by date. This is a common date.

Recorded mintage: 2,026,000.

Specification: 1.92 g, copper, 16 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-90, Sch-720.
