This specimen was lot 31110 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $21,150. The catalog description[1] noted, "Infrequently Offered Mint State William & Mary gold Guinea 1694 MS62 PCGS. A gorgeous example of this very scarce type, with strong prooflike reflectivity remaining in the obverse fields and abundant radiant luster on showcase on the reverse. Minor handling, as one might expect from a coin over 400 years old, does exist, but all instances remain unobtrusive and the overall appearance is rather sublime. One of the finest survivors of this historic issue that marks the final year of William and Mary's co-regency, as Mary would pass away on December 28, 1694 and leave William to hold the throne alone until his passing in 1702. From The Law Collection." William III ruled alone after his wife's death in 1694.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 8.35 g, .917 fine gold.
