This specimen was lot 1084 in Stack's Bowers ANA auction (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $881.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREECE. 5 Lepta, 1828. NGC MS-61 BN. Toned, a few hints of mint luster in the most protected areas." After wresting her independence from the Turks, Greece was established as a republic under John Capodistrias. This regime lasted until 1831, during which time copper one, five, ten and twenty lepta were issued. All are scarce.
Recorded mintage: 400,000.
Specification: copper.
Catalog reference: KM-2; Geo-2a; Chase-135eb.
