Greece 1828 lepton

Stack's Bowers 2014 ANA sale, lot 1083

This specimen was lot 1083 in Stack's Bowers ANA auction (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $1,175. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GREECE. Lepton, 1828. NGC MS-63 BN. Exceptional grade for this issue. Toned, some attractive peripheral luster." After wresting her independence from the Turks, Greece was established as a republic under John Capodistrias. This regime lasted until 1831, during which time copper one, five, ten and twenty lepta were issued. All are scarce.
