This specimen was lot 24411 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $940. The catalog description[1] noted, "George VI Proof Sixpence 1938, PR64 Cameo PCGS, beautiful silvery surfaces with brightly mirrored fields. First of a lovely run of dates, each an exceptionally fine Proof of Record. Only occasionally does an offering such as this appear. Reminiscent of the selection found in the Norweb Collection, sold in the mid 1980s." This type was issued in large numbers 1937-46 but the proofs are rare. Sixpences minted 1947-70 were copper-nickel.
Recorded mintage: 13,403,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 2.82 g, .500 fine silver, 19.5 mm diameter.
