This specimen was lot 21092 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $1,057.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "George VI Proof Sixpence 1939, PR64 Cameo NGC, a lovely choice specimen having lightly speckled silvery gray surfaces. Very rare as a Proof of Record." This type was issued in large numbers 1937-46 but the proofs are rare. Sixpences minted 1947-70 were copper-nickel.
Recorded mintage: 28,670,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 2.82 g, 0.500 fine silver, 19.5 mm diameter.
