This specimen was lot 1130 in Stephen Album sale 30 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2018), where it sold for $305.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "SAXONY: Friedrich August III, 1763-1806, AR 1/3 thaler, 1797, a fantastic example! NGC graded MS64." This type was struck 1791-1806. This example is nicer than the KM plate coin. The Duke of Saxony consistently stood as an ally of Napoleon during his invasions of Germany, for which he was promoted to king in 1806. After Napoleon's fall, Saxony was punished by having half her territory annexed to Prussia but Frederick Augustus kept his new title.
