This specimen was lot 22578 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $376. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. 2 Annas, 1929-(C). Restrike. NGC PL-63. Full mirror fields with light iridescent toning adding significant eye appeal." The two annas, originally a silver coin (KM 515), was switched to copper-nickel in 1918 and struck to this design until 1936. Similar two annas were struck for George VI until 1947. The administration also attempted to circulate copper-nickel four and eight annas but failed. The Bombay mint also minted this type but not in 1929.
Recorded mintage: 13,4048,000 plus restrikes.
Specification: 5.62 g, copper-nickel.
