The first specimen was lot 10743 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $940. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND. Bern. 1/4 Thaler, 1774. PCGS MS-66. Light iridescent toning and very attractive." The type is listed for 1757-60 and 1773-74 and was the largest silver coin issued in the period. The climbing bear is the badge of Bern. The canton of Bern was invaded and occupied by revolutionary French armies in 1794.

Recorded mintage: unknown but not expensive.
