Stack's Bowers 2021 NYINC sale, lot 24369
SB121-24369r.jpg

This specimen was lot 24369 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. 25 Cents, 1966. Utrecht Mint; privy mark: fish. PCGS PROOF-67 Gold Shield. Despite the lack of a designation, this robust minor offers a fairly intense cameo nature through its frosted devices and mirrored fields." Queen Wilhelmina abdicated in 1948 in protest of Dutch colonial policy in Indonesia in favor of her daughter, Juliana, who would rule until 1980. New coin types were therefore necessary and were introduced in 1950. This nickel twenty-five cents was struck without change until 1980. No dates are rare.

Recorded mintage: 25,000,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 3 g, nickel, 19 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-183, Sch-1148.
