Australia 1911 half penny

from the Stack's Bowers 2018 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70168

This specimen was lot 70168 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $105. The catalog description^[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. 1/2 Penny, 1911. London Mint. NGC MS-63 RB. First year of issue. Light toning, some darker areas on the obverse. Considerable mint red, especially on the reverse." The type was struck 1911-36 at London (shown here), Calcutta, Melbourne, Sydney and Heaton. The Heaton Mint produced this type 1912 and 1914-15 only.

Recorded mintage: 2,832,000 plus a few proofs.

Specification: 5.67 g, bronze, 25.5 mm diameter.
