The first specimen was lot 32753 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "Louis XIV 1/4 Ecu 1649-F AU Details (Cleaned) NGC, Angers mint. A very elusive mint for the type and Louis XIV's coinage in general, some minor haymarking on the obverse and adjustment marks on the reverse giving an air of originality to the lightly cleaned surfaces. From the Engelen Collection of World Coinage." This French type was struck 1646-60 at numerous mints but never in the numbers of the 1/12 écu, half écu or écu. Droulers prices this date about 80% higher than the common date (such as 1652-A).

Recorded mintage: 20,881[2].

Specification: 6.68 g, 0.917 fine silver, 27 mm diameter, plain edge.
