Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale, lot 71013

This specimen was lot 71013 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $576. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Ecu, 1649-M. Toulouse Mint. Louis XIV. NGC EF-45. Mintage: 2,250. Entirely wholesome and original, this pleasing crown exhibits some light, even wear, along with a few darker spots, but also retains some hints of brilliance in the protected areas." The type was issued in large numbers 1646-54.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 27.45 g, 0.917 fine silver, 39-41 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Jean Warin.
