Basel 1795 duplone Fr-70
This specimen was lot 1255 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 3,750 CHF (about US$5,715 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Basel, Stadt und Kanton, Duplone 1795, Basel. Auf der Rückseite mit Opfertisch. Sehr selten. Gutes vorzüglich. (canton of Base, duplone of 1795, Basel mint, altar reverse. Very rare, About Uncirculated.)"
This type was struck 1795 only and is rare. It is accompanied by a slightly scarcer duplone of 1795-96 (KM 188) with a different reverse. Confusingly, the SCWC shows the same image for both.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 7.64 g, 0.900 fine gold, this specimen 7.61 g.
