Stack's Bowers 2025 ANA sale, lot 43057
SB825-43057r.jpg

This specimen was lot 43057 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $43,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "Exceedingly Rare Louis d'Or of 24 Livres from Toulouse. FRANCE. Constitution. Louis d'Or de 24 Livres, Year 5/1793-M. Toulouse Mint. Louis XVI. PCGS MS-63. A PHENOMENALLY RARE specimen from a very difficult emission, as can be seen by the low mintage figure, this glistening example displays a sharp, well executed strike, dazzling luster, and appealing golden-yellow flair across both sides. Not at all surprisingly, the finer of just two observed in the PCGS census, and a cornerstone for any advanced collection of the period. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Wade Hinderling on 3 February 2007 for $24,000)." As the Revolution slid into the Terror, the regime found gold harder and harder to obtain. This louis d'or was issued in tiny quantities and this is the rarest mint.

Recorded mintage: 900.

Specification: 7.65 g, 0.917 fine gold, 23 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: Fr-477; KM-617.2; Gad-61.
