Stack's Bowers September 2025 ANA sale, lot 43386

This specimen was lot 43386 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. 2 Francs, 1808-MA. Marseille Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS F-12. Rather extensively circulated, this deeply toned specimen yields an impressive and exceedingly wholesome appearance. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Patrick Guillard on 11 April 1999 in New York City for $240)." Le Franc notes two different stars were used for the privy mark on this rare date. This design added a laurel wreath to Napoleon's bust. In 1809, the reverse was revised to read "EMPIRE FRANÇAISE".

Specifications: 10 g, 0.900 fine silver, 27 mm diameter, lettered edge, designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier (1763-1819).
